The Immune System (Immunity) – Effects of Civilization
How nice if we could be immune from tax collectors, daily expenses, enemies, heavy works, etc. However, it is possible to be immune from various diseases. This system that recognizes and opposes disease is called the "Immune System".
The immune system is a group of cells, molecules, and organs that act together to defend the body against foreign invaders that may cause disease, such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi. The health of the body is dependent on the immune system's ability to recognize and then repel or destroy these invaders.
Don't you notice that many animals and insects eat foods that are not clean at all? Yet, they remain healthier than we are. They eat raw foods, yet they are not affected from stomachache or allergies. Why can we not imitate them? We have to wash and cook our foods in order to avoid getting sick. Don't you think animals and insects are stronger than human? Is it because they have some kind of immune system with them? Yes, they really do have such immune capability.
Most animals have systems that resist disease. The disease resistance provided by these systems is called immunity. There are two types of immunity: innate and adaptive. Innate, or nonspecific, immunity is the body's first, generalized line of defense against all invaders. Innate immunity is furnished by barriers such as skin, tears, mucus, and saliva, as well as by the rapid inflammation of tissues that takes place shortly after injury or infection. These innate immune mechanisms hinder the entrance and spread of disease but can rarely prevent disease completely.
Were People Before Stronger than Today?
During my childhood, it was the time of WWII and there were not enough food to eat. Children of our time and our responsibilities were to search for daily foods in river, sea, mountain forest and farmlands. Our collection of edible harvest were mostly grasshopper, field mouse, snake, frog, snail, wild cherry, strawberry and edible green grass. These crops we ate were rich with protein and vitamins.
Did you know that food we ate was somewhat unsanitary and non-dieted? But to some extent, we became immune from various kinds of bacterial diseases. Today, young generations eat foods produced sanitarily, intuitively and economically by well-controlled sophisticated factories. There were only 404 kinds of diseases before but it's increasing overtime.
Does Civilization Make People Weak?
Yes, it is true that civilization makes people very weak. When I went to Thailand, we saw some people eating cockroaches. These were big roaches came from deep forest in Thailand. I saw fried and toasted roaches with soy, sugar and other spices at food stores. I went to places where people eat such bizarre foods and I noticed that primitive life of people seldom get sick compare to those who claim to be civilized. Native people of Australia live healthier than white people there. I know these people are eating centipede and galley-worms which civilized people never eat.
In Thailand, I met two cobra snake charmers. These two snake charmers were immune from venomous cobra bites. By means of injecting a small amount of cobra poison to their bodies, they became totally immune from its bite. Centipedes live with bacteria, yet they are not affected by the bacteria. Do you believe that people who eat these centipedes and cockroaches became immune from bacteria? I am not talking about the life span. Life span depends upon the race.
Some people believe that this way of living in these areas will have short life. Yes, average of 45 - 55 years of life span but it has nothing to do with the food you eat.
Several years ago in Japan, some scientists started to collect centipedes and galley-worms for antibacterial agents. It's not a stupid idea to create these kinds of drugs. However, they are multiplying these worms inside non-bacterial glass beakers. Are they crazy? Multiplying these worms on a sanitary area won't make them immune to bacteria.
Does Civilization Create More Bacteria and Viruses?
It is true that civilization creates more bacteria and viruses. It means that more diseases are surfacing to the world. Civilization created thousands of modern sufferings as you can see in medical books of the world. What did civilization do to us? Who did it? Is it not scientists of today? Are they facing to right direction? Are they not leading us to wrong world?
Food in the Cage
Pork, beef, chicken, vegetables and fruits you eat, where does it come from? Have you ever thought that these foods you eat make you weak instead of making you healthier? Food producers including scientists claim that foods of today (modern age) are healthy and sold at higher price. Stupid studies by scientists are increasing as well as sick people who are convinced by them.
Pork, beef, chicken and even fishes are cultured artificially in a cage. Fruits you eat are no longer the taste we know several decades ago. Vegetables at supermarkets we buy are all house-cultured without soil. It is very difficult to find meats and vegetables grown in the wild. Food itself has no power of immunity from bacteria and other foreign diseases. This is the reason why people are losing immunity to all diseases. I moved my place to countryside where I plant vegetables, raise livestocks and catch fishes in the river. Our families are all healthy and enjoy our living like that time of our great grandparents enjoyed. Why don't we eat what our great grandparents ate and live the way our great ancestors lived? Will it still be possible today?
